How can we ensure the future of the Breton horse and avoid the decline or even disappearance of the numbers which, today, threaten all draft breeds? The Brittany Region, engaged since 2011 in a Horse Plan, has made the preservation of this living heritage a priority.
The process was initiated at the end of 2014 with the installation of the prefiguration association of the Breton Horse Public Interest Group to resume the reproduction activities carried out until December 31, 2014 by the French Horse and Equestrian Institute (IFCE) on behalf of France HARAS pending the creation of a GIP.

The constitutive convention of the GIP Breton horse was registered by order of the Minister of State, Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, the Minister of Agriculture and Food, the Minister of Action . . and public accounts and the Minister of Sports dated June 19, 2017.
From this date, the GIP therefore takes over from the prefiguring association of the GIP Breton horse. Formed on a transitional and temporary basis, the association organized the 2015 and 2016 breeding seasons in their entirety and the start of the 2017 season.
In 2023 FRANCE GENETIQUE CHEVAL BRETON will take over from Gip in order to ensure continuity for breeders in a diversified genetic choice with fresh, frozen artificial insemination and stallions offered for rental.
